I'm having a very similar problem with the H4. I just posted about it.
My problem with the using it as a USB mic is that high pitch frequencies create a distortion, a low rumbly distortion. It's not to do with levels or anything, and it's the exact same distortion in GB and in Quicktime as well.
My housemate also has a new Mac, and again the exact same distortion.
However my friend has an older mac and doesn't experience this distortion at all. It works fine.
So I think it's some issue with the newest Macbook Pros .. at least in my case.

Have you tried using using your Zoom H1 as a usb mic? Make sure your Zoom H1 has the latest 2.0 software. Here is video on how to update the Zoom H1. Because the ZOOM H1 Handy Recorder is their first recorder that ZOOM has manufactured, the company has developed a variety of recorders (H2, H2next, H4next, H6, iQ5, MRS-8, Q2HD, Q3, Q3HD, R16, R24, R8) with many features that would differentiate with the ZOOM H1 Handy Recorder.
